Tapan Kumar Karmaker has been the Managing Director of BRAC Microfinance Sierra Leone and Liberia since February 2016. Prior to this, Mr. Karmaker was the Country Representative of BRAC Sierra Leone for four years, and played a critical role in shaping BRAC microfinance activities in Sierra Leone. He is a rural development and microfinance specialist. Prior to joining BRAC, Karmaker worked as Director Microfinance of RDRS, a leading NGO in Bangladesh, where he gained extensive experience in microfinance in Asia and Africa. He also worked for fourteen years on the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, where he worked on issues of rural development, women empowerment, micro, small and medium enterprises, agro-finance, and poverty alleviation projects. He started his career with BRAC under the Rural Credit and Training Programme (RCTP) as a microfinance practitioner.
