Nicholas George joined UNOPS in November 2008, becoming Global Head of Communications. In this role he led the organization’s outreach as well as its moves towards greater transparency and knowledge sharing. Most recently Nicholas served as Head of Programme and Partnerships and then Director of UNOPS Myanmar, one of the organization’s largest field offices. Here he was involved in the implementation of several infrastructure projects covering health facilities, roads and irrigation, attempting to find appropriate and sustainable solutions, often in highly challenging environments. He was also responsible for large scale fund management and procurement operations. As a consultant Nicholas has worked in several countries, most notably Bangladesh for the World Bank, Human Rights Watch and SIDA, among others.
Nicholas has a background as a journalist, spending 20 years in print and broadcast media. He has worked for, among others, The Financial Times and The Economist. He was educated at Manchester University and the London School of Economics in the UK.
